Thank you for dropping by for this month’s edition of Bilingual Life. 

I am happy to say that my wife and I are keeping our promise and continuing to speak only English when our daughter is around. It has been mostly successful but with a few slips here and there. We will continue to do our best in this regard. 

Today’s blog entry will be short as I don’t have much news to report this month. It will take a long time before we see the result of our efforts to only speak English (between husband and wife) at home. Today I would just like to share something on Youtube that my daughter likes very much. If you are encouraging your small child to learn English you might also find it interesting or helpful. I recommend watching and learning together. It is much better for your child’s development and it is fun.

My wife and I are very careful not to let our daughter watch too much TV. Her TV viewing is very limited. She watches NHK in the morning and a few minutes of TV in the evening after she gets out of the bath in the evenings. Recently she really likes a Youtube character called “Bob The Train.” Bob The Train is a cartoon character that sings and dances. The colors are very bright and vivid. Bob the Train sings and dances to some traditional children’s songs, nursery rhymes, and some new original ones, too. The songs are great and catchy. My daughter watches contently, and sings along when the mood strikes her. Bob The Train is all in English. He teaches us about shapes, colors, animals and manners etc. It is safe and appropriate for young learners and preschoolers. We often watch it together and I ask her questions about what she is watching, for example, “What color is ….?, What shape is….? What is …. doing? etc.”. If you don’t already know about Bob The Train you might find it a useful tool to encourage your child’s English education.

This was not intended to be a commercial for Bob the Train, I just wanted to share some information about a tool we use at my house to encourage English use and talking points with my daughter. Thank you for dropping by and looking forward to seeing you next month!

僕と妻は約束を守って、娘がいるときは英語だけを話すようにし続けています。

ほとんどうまくいっていますが、あちこちに少し見落としがあります。

今後もこの点について最善を尽くしていこうと思っています。

今月は報告できるニュースがあまりないので、今回のブログは短くなります。

家で（夫婦間で）英語だけを話すという努力の結果が出るまで、長くかかります。

今日は、娘が大好きなYouTubeを共有したいと思います。

あなたが、小さなお子さんに英語を学ばせたいと思っているなら、
おもしろくて役に立つと思うかもしれません。
お子さんと一緒に見て学ぶことをおすすめします。
それはお子さんの発達にとてもいいですし、楽しいですよ。

僕と妻は、娘がテレビを見すぎないようにとても気をつけています。

娘がテレビを見られるのはとても限られています。

娘は朝にNHKの番組を、夕方お風呂を上がってからは数分テレビを見ます。

最近、娘は「Bob The Train」というYouTubeのキャラクターが大好きです。

Bob The Trainは歌ったり、踊ったりする、漫画のキャラクターです。

色はとても明るく鮮やかです。
Bob The Trainは昔ながらの童謡やわらべ歌、
そして新しいオリジナルの歌に合わせて歌ったり踊ったりします。
曲は素晴らしくてキャッチーです。娘は満足そうに見ていて、気が乗ってくると一緒に歌っています。
Bob The Trainはすべて英語です。彼は、形や色、動物、礼儀などを教えてくれます。
幼い学習者や未就学児にも安全で適切な内容です。
よく一緒に見ているのですが、
「何色...？」「何の形...？」「...は何をしているの？」などと娘に質問をします。

Bob The Trainについてまだ知らない場合は、
お子さんの英語教育に役立つツールだと思っていただけるかもしれません。

これはBob The Trainのコマーシャルをしようとしたのではなく、
娘が英語を使って話すようになるために、
僕たちが家で使っているツールについて情報を共有したかっただけです。
